Cosmos I

Cosmos flowers (Cosmos spp.) are hugely popular in Japan, and seeing them planted and growing wild all around is part of my “being in Japan”-feeling. I took this photo during the Cosmos exhibition in the Takino Suzuran Park near Sapporo.

Sōunkyō Autumn Mountains I

The autumn forest colours get an early taste of winter snow in the Sōunkyō gorge area of the Daisetsuzan National Park, Hokkaidō.

Shinsen-numa wetlands

Previously, I have visited Shinsen-numa in summer. This time I was after some spectacular autumn colours, which I got – but the weather was bad, so no blue sky and blue water. The clouds, however, created a nice backdrop on the top of the mountain.

Beautiful pink blossoms on an old cherry blossom tree: this year I tried experimenting with more distant photos rather than focussing on close-up shots. The contrast between the blue sky and the pink blossoms was fabulous!

Flowering Grass

Grasses usually don’t get too much attention. But if you take a closer look, they are just as beautiful as flowers and often show fascinating patterns created by repetition. Combine them with nice evening sunlight, and they rival many of their larger neighbours.

Nakafurano Fields IV

While lavender gives the impression of almost gapless purple, poppy flowers produce a nice spotty play of colours. From a 2006 visit to the colourful fields in Nakafurano, Hokkaido, Japan. I believe the fields belong to the Tomita farm. These photos also show two things: cheap and old cameras (here my compact Casio Z-57) produce lower image quality, but that doesn’t mean the photos can’t be beautiful :)
